All those denim shirts I just bought on Poshmark were men's shirts! The measurements fit me better, and I like longer shirts (yes, even if they're really fucking long)! Same with most of the denim and utility jackets I have! I started wearing my dad's chambray shirts over my T-shirts with jeans as a teenager, so I guess I never quit doing what's always worked for me :D
I love this from Julia, "So I guess the experience was remembering that sometimes clothes don’t fit me, not the other way around. In other words, it’s not that I don’t fit into something, it’s that it doesn’t fit me." I can't count the times I've bought stuff (and went by the size charts), and when I got the clothes they--kinda fit. I (never wanting to return anything) would keep them, hang them in the closet, and occasionally take them out and put them on only to take them off again--because they just weren't comfortable enough to wear (or sit down in, drive in, walk in, absolutely not eat anything in). And I would feel a little crummy about it, no matter what. It's been hard to push back those feelings at times, but I'm getting better at it. Newsletters like Burnt Toast and definitely now Big Undies are game changers for me!!!
I so appreciate you for helping me through this process, Virginia! And I do feel a LOT better with having only clothes in my closet that fit well. That way when I grab something, I know it's something I like and feel comfortable in. My confidence is automatically boosted😉
Salvant is one of my favorite jazz vocalists so I was happy that Julia mentioned her. She is a bit of a style icon, yes. This was a cool interview. come autumn when I begin shopping for a handful of things - just for the hell of it - I'll checkout Madewell's men's shop conveniently located around the half block from my home.
Delightful! I’ve always wanted to take one of Julia’s cooking classes too (I am obsessed with her turkey-ricotta meatball recipe! Best freezer food). Love the Ellie the Elephant shoutout❤️
I can really only shop tops in the men's section because my waist to hip ratio is just...not made for the very straight fit of most men's pants lol. I have one pair of fast fashion sweat shorts I love, but they are sometimes a struggle to get over my butt! I will say I think my life would've been made so much easier if I just bought men's coats as a teen because I always felt like my shoulders were too wide back then and then as I got older I came to realize what Julia did. Now thankfully it's easier for me to find femme coats that fit so I don't just have to stick to things from carhartt!
Thanks for having me over at your house! Xo
Crossover interview of my dreams
TRULY
Exactly what I was thinking!
I LOVE the moment of realizing you are wearing a version of a favorite childhood outfit!
I’m loving Big Undies. So much fun to start the day on Monday and Wednesday
Yes!

This is SUCH a process but it is soo liberating to get rid of those clothes that make us feel quietly miserable because they don't QUITE work.
