Good Queer News / Ben Greene are just a delight. The library in the town near my work brought him in a few months ago as a speaker. The 90 minute session for his talk/Q&A was not enough. I could listen to him for days on end and it still wouldn’t be enough. I’m so thankful for his optimism.
That CORNBREAD!!! I am drooling! :D I love cornbread, and didn't even know there was blue cornmeal, but it sure is cool looking! Please let us know how it tasted!!
I have purchased vintage clothes on Etsy, but I message the sellers if measurements aren't given! I do the same thing on Poshmark. I have wasted too much money buying stuff that was supposed to be "true to size."
That bathing suit is super cute, and a great Spring color!!!
That pale violet-blue cornbread… Oh!!!!! It glows!!! How was the taste?
I’ve run to the store so many times just for buttermilk. (Well, like three times.) I learned it freezes and thaws just fine, so now I buy a big bottle every once in a while, divvy it up in pint jars, and chuck those in the freezer to use as needed. I’m realizing suddenly that young me would be impressed and scornfully overwhelmed by the casual sharing of such ordinary small domestic thoughtfulness. It would have felt like a trap, a blow to creative freedom and a muzzle on my mind, but also a failure in waiting, completely, damningly beyond me. Turns out it’s neither. It’s buttermilk, which makes for good cakes.
Has anyone read Tamar Adler? I’m reading her book on old recipes now and now I think those buttermilk lines above were me unconsciously trying on her style! She’s much more clever and ornate about food, though. I feel like I’m eating when I read her work.
I just bought some powdered buttermilk recently! There's a country store maybe 30 minutes away run by Mennonites that is an absolute delight for all manner of random ingredients at good prices.
This may be cooking sacrilege, but you can put 1 tablespoon white vinegar in a one-cup measure , then fill with milk. Stir and let it sit for five minutes then add to your recipe.
I think you can also simulate it with lemon juice.
Re freezer storage, I am a recent convert to soupercubes & they make me want to freeze ALL the things!! As a single person who frequently freezes leftovers, they have made freezer management much easier!
Hi. That vintage shirt on Etsy is gorgeous. Message the seller and ask for measurements. I do that all the time when I'm shopping on a site that's selling used or vintage clothes. Usually they answer. You need that shirt.
I just bought the Lands End "tugless tank" in navy and after swimming in it this weekend, ordered another one in a violet shade (really good sale on right now and they even have it in a long torso plus version, which it turns out works perfectly for my torso). I have just gotten back into lap swimming. I strongly prefer two piece suits for more recreational/hangout swimming, but I was constantly readjusting those suits when trying to do laps. It's a very simple, basic design if that's your jam! Up to size 26.

Wow that sounds amazing!!!!

Yes blue corn was originally cultivated by indigenous people in the southwest so it is somewhat of a regional specialty, I think!

The taste was good! I do think blue corn has a distinct flavor, so that was fun.
Freezing buttermilk is a great idea!! If I only I had room in my freezer 😵💫😵💫😵💫
You can also buy powdered buttermilk! Just mix with water for recipes. Now I have it on hand all the time!
That’s a good hack!

Powdered buttermilk is also great for pancakes
I love this!

I would have done this if I had had milk! 😂
I think you can also simulate it with lemon juice.
