Do you know Val? Val is one of the coolest and smartest people I follow on Instagram. She posts about the intersection of ethical fashion and disability. Recently Val made this frankly incredible list of brands size 4X & up. All the businesses on the list are small businesses (not fast fashion) and the list is global so that people can avoid import tariffs. This is just a tremendously generous resource and I want to make sure everyone knows about it! If you know of brands that aren’t on the list, Val has included info about how to get in touch!
I’ve been side-eyeing this Connally Goods vest for quite some time and when I went on sale, I bought it. I’ve been wanting a sweater vest and this is not that, but I also know it will be a lot more warm-weather-appropriate than a sleeveless sweater. I love a lot of things about Connally Goods, but one of my favorite things is the models! It’s so helpful to see their clothes on people who are my size-ish—because then I KNOW it’s going to look good. ANYWAYS, the vest (and the rest of the Connally Goods website including my other fave, the Ulla jeans) is 15% through 11:59 pacific time today!
Empire Waist
My mom is visiting and I decided this would be the perfect time to finally watch Empire Waist. It’s such a sweet movie. I loved seeing fat teens (and wheelchair-using teens and trans teens) on screen. Highly recommend if you need to feel good for 90 minutes. Listen to director Claire Ayoub on Burnt Toast here.
A New Queer Romance Novel!
I’m really excited to read Cover Story a queer romance about closeted queer celebrities—sounds juicy! Full disclosure: I heard about this book because I went to high school with author Celia Laskey!
Isn’t this gorgeous?
That’s all.
Skirts & Sneakers
It was 80 degrees outside last week and I saw a very stylish plus size stranger pushing a stroller and wearing a maxi wrap skirt and sneakers. She looked incredibly chic, and if I ever wore skirts, I’d be copying her look. The skirt was similar to this one (up to 3x) but a denim skirt would also be cute (up to 24) and I think the sneakers were these ones, but I could imagine these being cute, too. The combo kind of reminds me of middle school and Delia’s catalogs, but in a good way?
Watch the whole thing! I hope to be deadlifting into my 90s.

Love this whole list but ofc special shout out to Empire Waist!!
I am euphoric because I found a great resource in Seattle for altering clothes that is fat friendly, trans friendly, generally all around inclusive. I’ve been looking for sometime now –SODO garment collective 🤗
