Last Call! This week I’m donating 20% of any new subscriptions to Garment Worker Center. The Garment Industry in the US employs many immigrants who are being targeted, detained, and deported by ICE. Garment Worker Center is a worker rights organization leading an anti-sweatshop movement to improve conditions for tens of thousands of Los Angeles garment workers
If you’ve been considering upgrading to paid, this is a great time to do it!
Here is What is Bringing Me Joy Lately
I’m onto my next quilt project.
This fabric is all from an estate sale I went to in my neighborhood. The person who died had ROOMS full of fabric in her house and it was a challenge to leave with less than a single bagful. These candy colored plaids spoke to me. They reminded me of shirts my dad wore on special occasions growing up. And when I got home I discovered a lot of them were old clothes that had been broken down into usable chunks of material. It’s all very soft and I think it will make a nice quilt.
Okay and while I am sewing / ironing / slicing fabric, I have been listening to Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Strout. I haven’t read anything by her before, but let’s just say she lives in my hometown in Maine and the town she’s writing about has A LOT of similarities. Like she’s describing what you see after getting off the highway exit for this town and… yup.
Are there any cribbage fans in the Big Undies audience? My mom taught me to play a few years ago and I’ve mostly only played with her. But I recently found an app that lets you play against random people on the internet—I prefer this to playing against a computer? The rules are slightly different from the rules that I play with my mom, but it’s a nice way for me to pass five or ten minutes that isn’t scrolling. I don’t know why, but it feels more wholesome than candy crush. Am I wrong?
The last thing is something that isn’t bringing me joy YET, but could it? Feeling drawn to this little jewel green straw bag! It looks like the perfect size for just the essentials. I often just carry my wallet, phone, and keys loose in my hand, but I’ve been wanting something that holds them all together that’s smaller than the standard Baggu. Is this the one??
I've been on team no purse, just pockets for a while, but I was in Kohl's recently (one of the few places in town where I can actually try on clothes in a store) and got a small black leather bag that can be a clutch or a crossbody (with a strap that is actually long enough for my fat torso). So I'm finding myself bringing that sometimes lately, because it gives me a place to stash my glasses, too. I'll often bring both sunglasses and progressives and need somewhere to store the other pair I'm not wearing. My new bag is*just* big enough to hold wallet, keys, phone, and glasses.
Those plaids are fabulous and could even make incredible placemats!
As another person born and raised in Maine, I don't think I knew what part of the state you were from until now...and with this information and having once worked for a summer in Harpswell, I must now ask what is your favorite thing at Wild Oats?
