While procrastinating on writing this post, I saw a Tiktok posted by an astrologer that said today is the perfect day to “crash the fuck out” because of the full moon. I will admit that I was not at all sure what “crashing out” meant in this context, but emotionally… it felt accurate? And this reminded me that on Sunday I listened to my favorite astrology podcast and Jessica’s advice for today was:

Because the Moon is full in Leo, it's important to remember to tend to your feelings. Leo is a deeply heartfelt sign, and its courage comes from the heart. (…) And so whatever actions you do or don't take, may they come from the fullness of your heart, and may they be authentic.

Which feels very timely for Valentine’s day but also for my late winter malaise. 2025 already feels like it has been a million years long. I’m feeling demoralized by the news. I hurt my knee and it’s taking longer than I want to heal. The February gloom is getting to me!

So, let’s crash out. Let’s tend to our feelings. I made this list as a reminder of some of the ways I can do self care that aren’t just bubble baths and face masks.

Some Things You Can Do

  1. Call your senators / reps (the 5 calls app makes it SO easy)

  2. Vacuum or sweep your floors (I’ve been finding sweeping weirdly satisfying lately. I think I like seeing the dirt in the dustpan?)

  3. Read The Body is Not An Apology

  4. Read All About Love

  5. Read Dean Spade’s new book

After the paywall… 16 more ways to take care of yourself in these weird / bad times, including:

  • Two recipes I’m enjoying

  • The meditation app getting me through

  • An underwear set that’s in my cart

  • My best tactics for staying sane and grounded right now
